The Kings Cup regatta is Thailand’s premier regatta attracting over 100 yachts every year and fully international yacht crews from as far away as Australia, China, Europe, the UK and US. With over 2000 crew The Kings Cup is on the Asian Yachting Grand Prix circuit with all types of yachts from IRC 0 – IRC 3 to Multi Hull racing, Monohull and multihull cruising divisions and classic divisions. There is a further option of one design racing. The Kings Cup Regatta is held in 2020 from November 28th - December 5th.
The Kings Cup inaugural event was in 1986 to celebrate the then Kings of Thailand’s birthday. His majesty was a keen sailor and it was quickly established as a firm favourite on the yachting circuit. The event is always held in the first week of December
Based in the beautiful Kata Bay on Phuket’s West coast the sight of over a hundred yachts anchored in the bay and preparing to go out and do battle is a sight to behold. Racing is split into different divisions to reflect yachts age, IRC rating, cruising or racing and courses are separated to reflect this.
There is an after race party each day in various high end Hotels with excellent food and of course alcohol and music, this is included in the price of the crew ticket although some sailors do not make it that far due to watering holes on Kata Beach where yachties gather to spin stories of bad luck, good fortune or great sailing skill.
Sailescapes had chartered 12 yachts in last year’s Kings Cup representing over 10% of the fleet and know the regatta and the key personnel who control the event very well. This allows us to offer a service to assist in all aspects of the event from IRC issues, sail measurement, protests etc.
Sailescapes can also offer a one stop service where we organise all aspects of the regatta, everything from Hotels, Transfers, registration can be organised through us allowing you to concentrate on crew preparation and flights. We do the rest!
